It has been a bit busy this past week, catching up on reviews and doing other stuff. Hubby and I finally got the ride-on mower working, allowing us to take down the jungle that is the empty lot next door on Thursday. It is no longer a haven for snakes and other critters but some of the wildlife, such as the bush turkey, seem to have liked the longer grass for hiding and hunting in.
After we took down the grass, we saw a bunch of toads leaving this area. This isn’t surprising but I’d prefer them to congregate elsewhere. I also saw a small green frog, such a lovely little creature that I promptly removed from the hazardous area under the house. We have lots of dust and other particles that could have clogged up the pores of its amphibian skin, which would have made life difficult for the adorable little froggy.
Whilst there is still a lot more to do around the place, cleaning up the area was exhausting. We were quite sore afterward, leading to a good night of sleep that same evening. Both of us are still really unhealthy and unfit, which made the task take much longer than if we weren’t taking so many rest breaks.
ANIME & MANGA
This week, I consumed a bunch of anime and manga, both new and old. I was a really fun week, wherein I enjoyed a lot of entertaining series.
The most charming manga series that I came across this week was:
- Skeleton Soldier Couldn’t Protect the Dungeon
- Regarding That We Decided to Live in the Countryside with the Female Knight Who Came to Us
- I Reincarnated into an Otome as a Villainess with only Destruction Flags…
Each of these titles is an Isekai series or has some sort of gaming element to it. Whilst there were other series that I either started reading or continued, these three were clear winners. I also discontinued a few series, which included Midnight Secretary, Appetite and A Couple of Handsome Men. This week, I started rereading the josei romance series Hapi Mari.
On the anime front, I managed to watch a few new shows. The standouts were:
- How Not to Summon a Demon Lord
- 3D Konojo: Real Girl
I started rewatching Monthly Girl’s Nozaki-kun. I am currently waiting on new episodes of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime and The Rise of the Shield Hero. I really love these series. I also have taken it upon myself to start reading the manga for The Rise of the Shield Hero, but will likely also read the manga for the other two as well when I catch up on several other titles on my backlog of manga to-read. This week, I also got to finish the first season of Goblin Slayer, a series that I quickly grew to love.
I haven’t made much headway in the worldbuilding front but I have worked out a few important plot points for Heroes of Lurra. They provide insight into how some of the characters think. Given that I am going for more of a character-driven story, it matters a lot.
I also came up with a few other story ideas which I made sure to write up notes for in OneNote. These have a distinct manga/anime vibe to them, but I am good with that.
There really isn’t much to add other than what I have mentioned above. It has been raining for most of the week, which meant that I wasn’t able to spend much time in the garden. I saw a snake in the back yard a few days ago. It appeared to be a tree snake. I moved my arm and said, “Shoo!” and it quickly slithered back through the fence towards the creek.
I also need to find a way to reduce the population of Black Soldier Flies living in my vermicompost as they each too much food. Whilst BSFs are another popular composting option, having a bunch of fly larvae in my compost affects my worm population. I have grown somewhat attached to my worms and believe that some partially composted grass clippings to the worm farm might have allowed them to gain a foothold. I’ll leave it a few days to think about how best to deal with them.
Mama Sunbird has been hard at work with her baby this past week. I think the rain has been a bit frustrating for her but she seems to be happy enough. I have not seen any wrens in several weeks, however. I think the recent wet weather has resulted in them prefer other areas along the creek. I hope those little birds are doing well.
Anyway, that is it for this week’s update. I hope that you guys have also had a productive week. I hope to have lots more stuff to discuss with you guys next week.
