Counterpoint (Song of the Fallen, #1)Counterpoint by Rachel Haimowitz

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Warning: This book tells the story of a gay romance between an elf and a human. It contains scenes of M/M sexual relations which may offend some readers.

If not for my “Kill all Humans” policy I would have probably enjoyed this novel a lot more. Sure, the Elves are sort of douches, but at least they have a reason to be ticked off. Humans on the other hand, endorse slavery, rape and the mistreatment of women, which was enough to make my want the Elven character to escape with magic intact and kick ass martial arts powers to behead and drink the blood of all surrounding enemies whilst cackling insanely. Harsh? Perhaps. In spite of my frustration at the scenario (purely a taste thing, I admit), Rachel Haimowitz writes such beautiful descriptions and her sentences have an elegance that rivals a lot of mainstream romance authors.
